IF campaign launches in Wales

P1010676The launch of a new joint agency campaign launched today at Cardiff castle.  The IF campaign (or OS in Welsh) is calling for World leaders to take the lead on tackling global hunger.

The launch, attended by CAFOD South Wales supporters Jim Barnaville, Alf Heffel and Ansti Correllis, was a chance for representatives from a range of agencies in Wales to get together to start the journey of the IF campaign in Wales.

“This campaign is an ambitious and exciting challenge.  We are told that there is enough food for everyone, but for a range of reasons people are still going hungry.  We can for once and for all tackle this serious issue, and be the first generation to eradicate global hunger” said Kieran O’Brien, manager of CAFOD South Wales.

“Despite the weather we got off to a good start in Wales” said Jim Barnaville, “CAFOD is already campaigning on food with its Hungry for Change campaign, and we have always worked well with others.  This is what we are all called to do as Catholics, we need to ensure that everyone backs this important campaign”

The campaign urges leaders of the world’s richest countries to tackle four big IFs:

  •  IF we give the poorest people the power to feed themselves.
  • IF we stop corporate tax dodging.
  • IF we use land for food, not fuel.
  • IF we force governments and companies to be honest about activity that stop children getting enough food.

We can make sure every child lives a life free from hunger – IF enough of us demand change.  You can take action by clicking here.

Over the next few months, CAFOD in South Wales will be working hard on promoting this campaign and asking for people to be involved through a range of activities and actions.  So please do watch this space for further updates.
