The parish of Our Lady Star of the Sea in Mumbles hosted a talk by CAFOD on the Year of Mercy on Friday 22 July at 7 pm.
This presentation offered an opportunity to delve into and discover some of the deeper themes of what Pope Francis is hinting at in this Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy.
Pope Francis reminds us that we live in a very cynical age, with a growing sense of indifference – especially in the face of global poverty and suffering throughout the world. This needs to change.
The Year of Mercy offers us all the opportunity for spiritual renewal.
Our Lady Star of the Sea is spectacularly situated right on the seafront at the Mumbles with the parish room looking out over the open sea.
I enjoyed a wonderful, warm welcome from the lovely parishioners in this vibrant parish community.
Convivial conversation, welcome refreshments, lively input on the Year of Mercy, Catholic Social Teaching, Pope Francis and the current refugee crisis, all contributed to an excellent evening.
The church itself offers a “serene oasis for quiet contemplation and reflection” and I urge you to visit if you are walking along the beach at the Mumbles, you won’t be disappointed.
Fr Mansel Usher welcomed the Lampedusa Cross to the parish where it will remain in the church from Friday 22 July until Monday 1 August.
