Volunteering with CAFOD in South Wales

Val in the office

One of our office volunteers in the Cardiff Office, Val Call told us about her volunteering experience and the reason why she volunteers.

CAFOD is a worthwhile charity and has always been a charity I have supported. I started volunteering in 2011 because I saw a notice on a church bulletin at St Joseph’s, Penarth. I am currently an office volunteer in the Cardiff Volunteer Centre and do a variety of activities, from database management to posting out letters.

As I am retired, volunteering keeps me in an active working environment. Sometimes when you retire, you can lose that. I like the routine of coming in each week and doing my bit to help out with such a worthwhile cause. It’s nice to make a contribution that is a bit different from fundraising and there’s a strong ‘feel good’ factor with the role.

Time is a valuable commodity, which people do not want to give. They are happy to give money but not time. If people thought about the impact that their time could have on others’ lives and supporting some vital charitable work then may be would also be inspired to give it a go!
