We are delighted to be holding a Day of Reflection on Harvest this year, which will be a chance to stop and reflect and to celebrate the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. This day of reflection is a free retreat, open to all of our volunteers and supporters, and will offer a chance to pray simply, to reflect and to learn more about CAFOD’s work overseas.
The day will be held at Ty Croeso, Llantarnam Abbey on Saturday 1 September, 11:00 – 4:00. Coffee from 10.30 am. All welcome.
Pope Francis, who named the 1st September as the World Day of Prayer for Care of Creation, calls on all people of good will to work together to protect our common home. In his encyclical Laudato Si’: On Care for our common home he writes:
You are called to care for creation, not only as responsible citizens, but also as followers of Christ! – Pope Francis
You can find out more about what Pope Francis teaches in Laudato Si’ in this short explainer animation I created a few years ago.
But changing our relationship with creation – from consumption and control to life giving relationships of care and protection is not as straightforward as it may seem, especially living a consumer and materialistic society which puts so many demands and pressures on us. Our retreat will offer a chance to reflect not only on our relationship with creation and the global poor, but also reflect on our relationship with the things that keep us distracted from living out the demands of the gospel in our everyday lives.
We will also be looking at the resources around our Harvest appeal, which will be a chance to find out more about CAFOD’s work overseas.
Please do let us know if you are able to join us. And if you are able to, could you put up this poster at the back of your Church to encourage others to join us?
