Getting Hands On for Colombia

Parish fundraiser invites overseas speaker to parish soup lunch at 12:00 pm, to tell us how we can get Hands On in Colombia.

We welcome Barbara Davies-Quy, our Country Representative for Colombia, Peru and Bolivia. She will be giving a talk in Porthcawl, at the parish of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, on Saturday 16 February, at 1:00 pm.

Barbara will share her experiences with you about her time spent visiting South America, where she has helped to aid communities in working together to improve their lifestyles and to find solutions to eradicate the poverty they face on a daily basis.

She will also highlight our new venture in Colombia, the Hands On project, which aims to work within Magdalena Medio, to transform the community’s lives. Within the next three years, we hope that by organising peace building workshops within schools and teaching young people how to avoid resorting to a life of violence, that we can reach thousands of people to improve the lives of the community as a whole.

This soup lunch is supported by our parish volunteer and area co-ordinator for the Bridgend deanery, Jenny Worthington. Jenny has supported us for over 20 years and just less than two years ago set out on her Camino Walk which raised £4000 to contribute towards running costs of a health clinic in a remote community.

If you are wanting to attend, please let us know by either emailing us at southwales@cafod.org.uk or phone us on 029 2034 4882.
