Join us after 10.00 am Mass on Friday 13 September at Our Ladye and St Michael’s Priory Church in Abergavenny (NP7 5UD) and learn more about CAFOD’s work around the world.
You may be a CAFOD volunteer preparing for this year’s Family Fast Day or you ay just be interested in learning more about what CAFOD does and where.
We will have the Fast Day guide, tips on scheduling, giving the short talk at Mass, scheduling dates and newsletter inserts – everything you may need to be fully prepared for Friday 4 October – Family Fast day.
Come and hear more about the country of focus this year – Uganda.
Our short talk focusses on Fabiano a 14 year old boy, who had to walk for miles in dangerous conditions to fetch water for his family.
While making this journey one day, he was attacked by a stranger.
Thanks to CAFOD donations, a water pump was installed in his village so he no longer has to risk his safety and education to do fetch water.
Many children in Uganda and elsewhere face terrible dangers and can miss out on getting an education when they have to trek long distances to collect water for their families every day. Sometimes up to three times a day.
And there are many more children like Fabiano who CAFOD currently cannot afford to support, which is why we are asking for donations this family fast day.
Spare copies of the parish poster and parish packs will be available too.
There will be a table with up-to-date resources on for parishes, children’s liturgy, campaigning and our new Hands On scheme which is a three year scheme working in conflict-torn Colombia with young people on peace-building initiatives.
We are asking all volunteers to make a special effort this Harvest to either speak at Mass or arrange for someone to speak at Mass either on the weekend of 28/29 September of 5/6 October.
The generosity of parish communities in England and Wales enables all our work and can help CAFOD reach even more of the world’s poorest people. Thank you!
