The beginning of August saw the Lampedusa Cross continue its journey across the parishes of Menevia, travelling through the beautiful Herefordshire and Powys countryside to arrive at the lovely market town of Knighton and the church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour and St Nicholas.

The church is served from Rhayader (St Francis of Assisi) by Fr Michael Akpoghiran who also ministers to the church in Presteigne (Assumption of Our Lady and St Therese). Continue reading

The Lampedusa Cross tours Cardiff and Menevia Dioceses

On a cold night, three years ago a boat filled with refugees trying to reach Europe capsized off the coast off Lampedusa.

311 people perished. Moved by the loss of life, local carpenter Francesco Tuccio, made the Lampedusa Cross from the wreckage of the boat and offered this simple, handmade cross to the survivors of the disaster as a sign of hope.
