This Thursday (19 September) brings together our team of Education volunteers at the Mostyn Room, adjacent to the Metropolitan Cathedral of St David right in the centre of Cardiff. (11 am to 3 pm).

We are looking to add to our small team of School Volunteers in the Archdiocese of Cardiff.  So…

Are you a parent with some free days during the week in school term time? Perhaps you have delivered Children’s Liturgy sessions and would like to support young people learn more about CAFOD in a school setting?  Are you a retired teacher or grandparent still keen to share your experience and passion?

Romero Festival in South Wales (9-15 March)

Today brought wonderful news from the Vatican: Pope Francis has recognized a second miracle from Blessed Oscar Romero which puts him on the path to canonization.

He was beatified by Pope Francis in May 2015.

Romero was Archbishop of San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador. He was assassinated on 24 March 1980 as he was celebrating Mass.

At the time, El Salvador was in the grip of a cruel civil war between guerrilla forces on the left and a dictatorial government on the right.

When he was appointed, Oscar Romero was seen as a “safe” pair of hands but during his three short years as Archbishop, and seeing the oppression and violence at first hand, he became an outspoken critic of the injustice he was witnessing all around him. Continue reading

Lampedusa Cross travels to Powys

The beginning of August saw the Lampedusa Cross continue its journey across the parishes of Menevia, travelling through the beautiful Herefordshire and Powys countryside to arrive at the lovely market town of Knighton and the church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour and St Nicholas.

The church is served from Rhayader (St Francis of Assisi) by Fr Michael Akpoghiran who also ministers to the church in Presteigne (Assumption of Our Lady and St Therese). Continue reading
